Ahh, Belize!

Our first full day in Belize was a relaxing one.  After a wonderful meal of breakfast tacos, we hit the beach. The sun is warm and the gentle trade winds blow. Not really, if you’re not holding on they’ll knock you on your ass.  But, they do keep you cool and they carry the scent of the ocean. Not too bad.

today unfortunately, with the winds come murky waters and none of us is too keen for a repeat of last years escapades. So, we stay by the pool basking in the sun. After lunch we head out to see the sights of our little town. Randy has arranged for us to have a 6 person golf cart to travel around. It’s obviously the preferred method of transportation here because they’re everywhere! And I do mean everywhere! Pretty Kitty has been designated our driver for the day and we take off. We wander the streets looking for treasure. Yes, rum! We realize this morning during our bar inventory that we forgot the rum! How is that possible? Everyone knows Peggy and Holly must have their Piña Coladas! During our search we find a nice little bar Di-vu to sit back and relax and enjoy these amazing turquoise blue waters. Di-vu. Get it? We all order some sort of island fruity concoction. Randy orders a Bahamas mama and, oh my, this was one hot mama. One of those tall dark lovelies that draw you in with her beauty then, WHAM! You find yourself naked and tied to a tree with an apple in your mouth. Not that this has ever happened, mind you. But…..After we find our treasures we head back to the house for some much needed napping.  Hey, treasure hunting can be exhausting!

Next its time to dress for cocktail hour. One of our traditions when we go on these trips is dressing for dinner. Nothing fancy, mind you. Just not shorts and t-shirts. The ladies all usually have on a sun dress and the men wear dress shorts and Hawaiian shirts. Very nice. Now, this year our house doesn’t have a sunset view but we can see the colors on the water as we sit and sip. Tonight’s dinner is shrimp, conch fritters, salad and these mashed potatoes to die for! And dessert………coconut pie! OMG!

Now, as you know, we usually play a game after dinner. Usually it’s Mexican Train, but this year Pretty Kitty has said ‘enough’ to not getting to ride that darn train! This year she introduces us to ‘Pegs and Jokers’. It’s a lot like Wahoo, in that the game is to knock your opponents peg off the board and back home. Oh great! I see much knocking off in my future. Peggy and Paul somehow get this war of the pegs going and keep knocking each other off. I’m stuck sitting between the two of them trying to stay out of the danger zone. But, no luck there. They both knock me off the board, giggling as they leave me in a cloud of dust. After a couple of rounds we get the hang of it. Secretly while the rest of us have been playing along, Mark has been studying the rules and strategizing his game. Yes, he clobbered us all. Twice! As the nights big winner he has declared this to be the next nights game of choice.  Wahoo! Oh, wait. Wrong game.
